Part 3 pass list February 2022.
These are the names of people known to me who sat the Part 3 exam in February 2022.
I expect that I have a few to add.
Some names are missing - I wrote asking for permission to publish and not all have replied.
Candidates are often very slow to let me know how they got on.
I recently had someone tell me that they passed a year ago!
33 passed, 7 did not, giving a pass rate of 82%.
This is very impressive: 35 of the 39 do not work in the UK or Ireland, which put them at considerable disadvantage.
I have been told that the average pass rate for UK candidates is about 70% - the College does not publish data, which is a shame.
Non-UK candidates are at a significant disadvantage and this is reflected in a pass rate significantly < 70%.
The pass mark was 61% and the scores ranged from 62 - 89%, with an average of 74%.
I have not yet published the names from May 2022 - I will do so soon.
29 passed, 5 did not, giving a pass rate of 85.3%.
The make-up of the group was very different to that of February, with only 8 not working in the UK or Ireland.
One is in Australia and one in Canada, which are very similar to the UK in practice, meaning that only 6 do not work in the UK or equivalent.
The pass mark was 61% and the scores ranged from 63 - 91%, with an average of 74%,
Several of those who did not pass missed by only a mark or two and should pass next time.
I think there is a clear message: doctors are very similar across the globe and the disadvantage of not working in the UK can be greatly reduced by understanding the exam, learning appropriate Part 3 techniques and doing lots of practice.
Congratulations to all of them: the MRCOG is the hardest academic task they ever faced and they have had to work extremely hard to succeed.
Success comes from ability and huge effort:
there are no magic fixes and
no one passes because of a particular course or teacher.
Some of those on the list will have used all the materials I have provided; some
will have used none.
Most will have used other resources and most successful candidates will not have heard of the tutorials.
Candidates who increased their score remarkably after disappointment the first time.

I think these data are very important and heart-warming - they are published with permission.
I am particularly interested in feedback from candidates who succeed after initial disappointment.
We medics tend to be bad at academic failure, having usually been seen as very bright from an early age.
Not passing an important exam can demoralise and give a sense of being a miserable failure,
These candidates demonstrate that a better understanding of the exam and the necessary techniques with loads of hard work can produce huge increases in performance.
Improving a score by > 30% is amazing.
Their accounts of how they set out to improve are on Dropbox.
If your name is on the list and you would like to have it removed, let me know.
If your name is not on the list, but should be, let me know.
The tables don't have all the names - I wrote recently to ask permission to publish names, but not all have replied.
